Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains how Gr8ful (“the App,” “we,” “our,” or “us”), provided by Vincent Charmeau, handles your information.

The short version: we do not collect, transmit, sell, or share your personal data. Your journal is stored on your device and in your own private iCloud account, which only you can access. We operate no servers, and we use no analytics or advertising SDKs.

1. Information We Collect

We do not collect any personal information. The App has no accounts of its own, no sign-in, and no analytics. We cannot read your journal.

2. Information Stored on Your Device and in Your iCloud

To work as a gratitude journal, the App keeps your journal on your iPhone. This includes:

  • Your entries: the things you write each day, and any photos you add from your camera or photo library.
  • The daily prompt attached to each day, including any prompts you write yourself and your default prompt.
  • Your preferences, such as reminder times.
  • Whether you have Gr8ful Pro and which days you have written on.

If you are signed in to iCloud, your entries, photos, and prompts are also stored in the private iCloud database linked to your Apple Account, using Apple's CloudKit service. This keeps your journal in sync across your devices and backs it up. This private database is controlled by Apple and accessible only to you; we have no way to read, access, or retrieve its contents. iCloud is subject to Apple's own privacy policy and terms. If you are not signed in to iCloud, your journal stays on your device only.

Your journal never leaves your device or your iCloud account except as described in sections 3, 4, and 6 below.

3. Home Screen Widgets

If you add a Gr8ful widget to your Home Screen, the App shares your journal with the widget on your device so it can show today's prompt, your recent entries, and your photos. This stays on your device and is not sent to us.

4. Purchases and Payments

  • Some features may require a paid upgrade (Gr8ful Pro). Purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store, and Apple's payment terms and privacy policy apply. We never see your payment details.
  • To verify and manage purchases, the App uses RevenueCat, a purchase management service. RevenueCat receives an anonymous, app-generated identifier and App Store purchase information (such as product identifier, purchase date, and Apple's transaction receipt). It does not receive your name, email address, journal entries, or photos. For more information, see RevenueCat's privacy policy at revenuecat.com/privacy.
  • Apple may provide us with aggregated, non-identifying sales and download statistics through App Store Connect.

5. Reminders and Notifications

If you turn on reminders, the App schedules local notifications on your device. These notifications are created and delivered entirely on your device; no notification data is sent to us.

6. Sharing Your Day

You can choose to share an image of a day's entries or a photo using your device's share sheet. Sharing happens only when you start it, and the image goes only to the app or person you pick. It is not sent to us.

7. Camera and Photo Library

The App asks for access to your camera or photo library only when you choose to add a photo. Photos you add are stored in your journal as described in section 2. The App does not scan or upload your photo library.

8. Contacting Support

If you email us for support, we receive your email address and whatever you write in your message. We use this only to reply to you.

9. Third-Party Services

  • We do not use analytics or advertising SDKs, and we do not sell your data.
  • The only third parties involved are Apple (App Store, iCloud, widgets, and notifications) and RevenueCat (purchase management), as described above.

10. Legal Bases (EEA/UK users)

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom: the limited purchase information shared with RevenueCat is processed because it is necessary to perform our contract with you (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)), namely providing the upgrade you purchased. All other information stays on your device and in your own iCloud account and is not processed by us.

11. Data Security

Your journal is protected by your device's own security features, such as your passcode, Face ID, or Touch ID, and, when synced, by the security of your Apple Account and iCloud, including encryption in transit and at rest. We recommend keeping your device up to date, protecting it with a passcode, and using two-factor authentication for your Apple Account.

12. Data Retention and Deletion

Your journal remains on your device and in your iCloud account for as long as you keep it. You can delete individual entries and photos in the App at any time, and deletions sync to your other devices. Deleting the App removes the journal from that device; the copy in your iCloud account can be removed from your device's iCloud settings under Manage Storage. Purchase records held by Apple and RevenueCat are retained according to their respective policies.

13. Your Rights and Choices

  • You can view, change, and delete your entries at any time in the App.
  • You can turn iCloud sync for the App off in your device's iCloud settings, turn reminders off at any time, and decline camera and photo access.
  • Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of personal data, or to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. Because we hold no personal data about you, most of these rights are fulfilled directly by you on your device. For questions, contact us at the address below.

14. Children's Privacy

The App is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone, including children under 13.

15. International Transfers

We do not transfer your personal data internationally because we do not collect it. Apple may store your iCloud data, and RevenueCat may process the limited purchase information described above, on servers outside your country, subject to appropriate safeguards under their own policies.

16. Terms of Use

Your use of the App is governed by Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement.

17. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The current version will always be available at this page, and the effective date above will be updated. If changes are material, we will take additional steps as required by law.
